Motorcycle Wave

August 4, 2011 by Linda Lee Patterson

I now know why we do the motorcycle wave…

When I was riding down the highway, it was seldom I would see another biker.  When I could see one approaching in the distance, my heart would sing out!!  As they approached, my left hand would slide out at about hip level…  If their hand slid out, my soul would reach across that highway and I could feel their soul touch mine!! For those brief moments, we bonded and I felt connected to another human being!!

When a biker would fail to do the wave, I would feel slightly sad, although if the wave was quick and then the hand pulled back, my soul would cry.  The sensation of sliding across that expanse of road, to be denied that connection was heart wrenching!!

I fell in love with the solitude of riding alone, although, I found I like to be with people also.  Sometimes, I would get really lucky and the other rider would need to feel that connection as much as I!! Both our hands would stay out there until we past each other fully!!

    Linda,
I didn’t get to see you last night (dog-sitting with our new pup in the car) but wanted to welcome you home and congratulate you on a magnificent journey! xo
